Envirothon 2017

Envirothon 2017
Over a two day period, April 24th and 25th five member teams of high school age young adults travelled to Lewistown to participate in the annual Envirothon sponsored by the Montana Association of Conservation Districts. Lincoln County High School sent two (2) teams placing tenth and twentyfifth.
The Envirothon is designed to encourage students to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to arrive at solutions to a specific environmental problem. Teamwork, problem-solving and presentation skills are evaluated as each team offers a panel of judges their oral presentation containing recommendations for solving the specific challenge that is presented during the competition. Students are tested in five (5) natural resource areas; soils, aquatics, forestry, wildlife and a fifth environmental issue that embraces a current issue such as recycling or land use management. The issue for this year’s competition was Sustainable Rangeland Management. The team’s knowledge is tested under the supervision of foresters, soil scientists, wildlife specialists and other natural resource professionals.
